7/29 – Frankly Welcomes WorldNow to the Family (Open Letter from CEO)

Good morning Frankly Family,

I’m writing with very exciting news that will further Frankly’s ambition to become one of the most significant technology companies in the world today. From our beginnings as the pure-play messenger, Frankly Chat, to our development of an industry-leading white labeled Chat Service, we continue to strive to be at the center of mobile engagement and monetization.

Today, we take one giant leap toward realizing that goal. Frankly has agreed to acquire WorldNow, one of the largest networks of local news content on mobile and web. WorldNow, based in NYC and founded in 1998, reaches more than 100 million monthly active users and has over 450 customers.

In addition to the massive scale of the WorldNow audience (ranked top 50 for all sites in the U.S.), this acquisition also brings solid revenue and profitability. Their ad technology will provide immediate scale to make Frankly a significant player in delivering innovative advertising solutions to the world’s biggest advertisers and agencies.

The culture at Frankly is the backbone of our company, and I am so happy to see our opportunities flourish with this additional technology. WorldNow will be a division of Frankly and run relatively autonomously in the near term. The continuity of services for both the San Francisco and New York offices will remain the same. We plan to cautiously integrate our efforts, while maintaining the same focus and roadmap for our Frankly Chat Service.

We are excited to bring on Lou Schwartz, who was previously the Chief Strategy Officer at WorldNow and formerly Chief Digital Officer at WWE, as the President of the newly named Frankly Media business in New York City. Harrison Shih will be promoted as the President of the existing Frankly Platform business in San Francisco. I will continue as CEO of Frankly, ensuring both businesses move together and build synergies. We are very excited to be bi-coastal and take advantage of all the opportunities both cities offer.

This is a very exciting time to be a part of Frankly and to experience our growth and steps toward our larger goals. I can’t wait to see what more we can all do together!

Sincerely Yours,

Steve Chung
CEO, Frankly Inc.
